The first video I watched of Marela Zacarías was Great Expectations. At the time, she was pregnant with her first child, a son, and was balancing her preparations for motherhood while working on a project which I mentioned in my first blog—if you’ve been keeping up!

When I first saw Zacarías's Instagram, she had a photo of her and her son, Mateo. Even though my journey of getting to know Zacarías has only been about four months, seeing her son as a young child made my heart happy. What filled me with even more joy was discovering that he has followed in his mother’s footsteps by taking on murals with his friends.

I think it’s incredible to pass on what you’ve learned from things you love most to your children. Even if they don’t choose the same path or career, they still carry the knowledge, and they may end up enjoying it too. It’s such a special and heartwarming experience to witness.

Though I am only 20 and have some time to go before becoming a parent, I pray that when I do have children, I can share my passions with them. I hope to give them the knowledge and creativity that would be something they can hold on to and cherish.

So I think it’s truly beautiful to pass the torch on what we learned and experienced to any of our loved ones and to bring that creativity to them. Who knows? Maybe it will change their life and how they observe life in general because I can say art has changed mine within the past year.
